Ain't It A Fine Life...

It's been a week since my last post. I have now been living as a hobo for 11 days. So far it isn't so bad. I really enjoy it. I know I promised pictures but I haven't had a chance to connect my camera to my computer. I'll probably end up taking the pictures with my cell phone so I can get them on here.
Now to answer some questions.

From Radam
- Why are you doing this?
- How long do you plan to do it?
- What do you eat?

For quite a few years I've planned on trying out the hobo life. It's always sounded so exciting. My main dream was to become one of them traveling hobo's that hitch rides off of trains (like in the movies). But if I did that then I wouldn't have a job. I know that having a job kinda defeats the purpose but I have bills to pay, so the job stays.
I don't have a plan for how long this is going to go on. I guess it'll happen until I have to stop. So far I haven't ran into any problems that don't have an easy solution, so I don't see any reason that I would need to stop.
Food has not been a problem. I generally don't eat breakfast anyway. For lunch I just go grab something to eat from a restaurant near my work, and I usually spend dinner with some friends. I pretty much get the same amount of food that I got while living at my parent's house.

From Cousin Zachary:
- My biggest question is where are you able to park overnight without being harassed by our beloved officers of the law?

From the very beginning I knew that this was going to be one of my biggest troubles. There are not very many places that would allow this sort of slumber. So far I've been parking in front of my friends houses so I can get used to the feel of sleeping in my car and also have a sense of security at the same time. I don't plan on always doing that though. When it gets a little warmer outside, I want to drive up the canyon and sleep in a tent. It's like camping every night!

From Brother Mark:
- I wonder how many homeless people blog.

I know that this isn't really a question but I'm going to answer it anyway. I don't know. But seriously, the first blog that I can ever remember reading was from a homeless dude. He would go to his local library and blog about what it's like to be homeless. Him and I are very different though. I'm homeless by choice, he wasn't. Actually I think he's still homeless. I just went to his blog to see if still exists and it does. Not only that, but it's still up to date. Check it out here.

For my hobo update: I decided to make life a bit more interesting. I know that my car could break down at any time. If this were to happen, I'd be out of hope. Being able to get around is very important to me (especially since I need to go to work everyday). So on Saturday I bought myself a motorcycle. I owe a big thanks to Reilly for this purchase. She was kind enough to co-sign for me. It's a Honda Shadow Spirit 750. I like it a lot.
Other than that though, everything is about the same. I'll try to keep my updates more frequent.

Hobo: Day 4

I have now spent a total of three nights in my car. Yesterday I realized that I need to start thinking about organization with my stuff. I had been carrying all of my clothes in the trunk of my car. This made it very difficult to find something to wear every day. So I went through every piece of clothing that I have. Anything that I don't wear, I put i my storage unit. Everything else is organized in separate duffel bags in my trunk. This alone made a huge difference in the time it takes for me to get ready in the morning.
One other problem that I ran into was that I don't own any shaving cream. I'm afraid that if I buy some and keep it i my car, the afternoon heat will cause it to explode. I do not yet know what to do about this problem. This morning I had to go to my parents house to shave.
Other than that, this project is going very well. I'll try to have some pictures posted on my next blog so that you can see my living arrangement.

Project: Hobo

Starting on Sunday May 20, I have addopted a new way of living. It's more of an expirement than anything else. I've rented an indoor storage unit to keep most of my belongings. The items that I'll be needing will be kept in my car (Clothes, Hygiene, Bedding, etc...). I'll be sleeping in my car. So far I've discovered that the back seat is smaller than I thought but I'm plotting new ways to sleep. My favorite idea at the time is kinda complex. You know how most new cars have the back seat that fold down so you can access the trunk? Well mine doesn't do that. But I took a good look at it. I think I can safely pull out half of the back cusion without ruining it. It will reveal a metal backing (this is where it gets hard). I need to find a way to cut a huge chunk of metal from my car. This way, I can lay down with my head on my backseat and the rest of my body in the trunk. I want to be able to reassemble the back seat whenever I'm not using it as a bed.
I will be keeping an update of my adventures on this blog. If you have any questions about this project, you can ask on the latest Hobo entry and I'll try to answer it in my next entry.

Palah-what?

I'm currently about half way through a the newest book writen by my favorite author Chuck Palahniuk. If you've ever read any of his work then you probably understand that his work is very disturbing and graphic. This book Rant is no exception. I won't say what's happened so far, but it's messed up. Unless you have a weak stomache, I highly suggest any of his fictional books (his non-fiction books are really hard to get through).

The Way of New-ness

After thinking about it for almost a long time I decided to walk in the footsteps of my eldest brother (a very nerdy path to walk) and start my own little blog. It probably won't be very interesting but I'll try.
